Description
The BSAC Dive Leader course is an advanced diving program offered by the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) that aims to develop divers’ skills, knowledge, and confidence in planning, leading, and managing dives. The course focuses on enhancing diving techniques, expanding depth limits, and building leadership and organizational abilities.
The Dive Leader course consists of three main components:
Theoretical Knowledge: Students attend classroom sessions or complete eLearning modules, covering advanced diving concepts such as dive planning, dive management, rescue management, and diving in various conditions. This ensures that they have a thorough understanding of the principles behind advanced diving activities and dive leadership.
Skill Development Sessions: Under the supervision of a qualified BSAC instructor, participants practice essential skills in a confined water environment, such as a swimming pool. These sessions help them refine their fundamental skills and develop new techniques, including advanced rescue skills, managing divers in distress, and using dive planning tools.
Open Water Dives: After mastering the new skills in a confined water environment, students complete a series of open water dives. These dives provide the opportunity to apply their newfound skills in real-world conditions, under the guidance of their instructor. During these dives, students will gain experience in various underwater environments and scenarios, including diving at depths up to 50 meters (164 feet) and leading groups of divers.
To enroll in the BSAC Dive Leader course, participants must hold a BSAC Sports Diver certification or equivalent from a recognized dive organization and be at least 14 years old.
Upon successful completion of the Dive Leader course, graduates will be certified to plan and lead dives with other qualified divers, dive to a maximum depth of 50 meters (164 feet), and manage diving activities in a range of conditions. The Dive Leader certification also serves as a foundation for further diving education, such as the BSAC Advanced Diver course, which prepares divers for more challenging environments and further develops their dive management and leadership skills.
