Description
The BSAC First Class Diver is the highest non-instructional diving grade within the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) diver training system. This prestigious qualification recognizes divers who have demonstrated exceptional skills, knowledge, and experience in various aspects of scuba diving, dive management, and dive leadership. First Class Divers are considered to be experts in their field and are often sought after for their expertise in organizing and managing complex and challenging dive expeditions.
Achieving the BSAC First Class Diver certification involves a rigorous process, which includes the following components:
Pre-assessment: Candidates must hold a BSAC Advanced Diver certification (or equivalent from a recognized dive organization) and have completed a minimum of 100 dives in various conditions, with at least 20 dives as a dive manager.
Training and Experience: Candidates need to gain experience and develop their skills across a wide range of diving activities, such as deep diving, wreck diving, and mixed gas diving. They must also complete various skill development courses (SDCs) and attend workshops or seminars covering topics like dive planning, risk management, and dive leadership.
Project Dive: As part of the assessment process, candidates are required to plan, organize, and manage a challenging dive project that showcases their expertise in dive management and leadership. The project must involve coordinating a team of divers, conducting risk assessments, and managing logistics, among other tasks.
Theory Examination: Candidates must pass a comprehensive written examination that covers various aspects of diving, dive management, and dive leadership. The examination tests their knowledge and understanding of advanced diving concepts and principles.
Practical Examination: Finally, candidates must pass a practical examination that assesses their dive management and leadership skills in a real-world environment. This includes organizing and leading dives in challenging conditions and demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Achieving the BSAC First Class Diver certification is a significant accomplishment that reflects a diver’s dedication to the sport, their extensive knowledge and experience, and their commitment to promoting safe and enjoyable diving practices. First Class Divers often play an essential role in mentoring and inspiring the next generation of divers, as well as contributing to the growth and development of the diving community.
