Description
The BSAC Advanced Diver Course is a higher-level diving program offered by the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) that aims to develop divers’ skills, knowledge, and confidence in planning, organizing, and managing complex and challenging dive expeditions. The course focuses on enhancing diving techniques, expanding leadership abilities, and honing dive management and organizational skills.
The Advanced Diver course consists of four main components:
Theoretical Knowledge: Students attend classroom sessions or complete eLearning modules, covering advanced diving concepts such as dive planning, risk management, and diving in various challenging conditions. This ensures that they have a thorough understanding of the principles behind advanced diving activities and dive management.
Dive Planning Exercises: Participants practice planning and organizing complex dive expeditions, including selecting suitable dive sites, managing logistics, conducting risk assessments, and creating detailed dive plans. This helps them develop the skills necessary for organizing and leading safe, enjoyable dive trips.
Practical Rescue Management: Under the supervision of a qualified BSAC instructor, students learn advanced rescue management techniques, including coordinating a rescue effort, managing on-site resources, and effectively communicating with other members of the dive team.
Open Water Dives: After mastering the new skills in the classroom and confined water environment, students complete a series of open water dives that involve various challenging conditions and scenarios. These dives provide the opportunity to apply their newfound skills in real-world situations, under the guidance of their instructor. During these dives, students will gain experience in dive leadership, dive management, and diving in challenging environments.
To enroll in the BSAC Advanced Diver course, participants must hold a BSAC Dive Leader certification or equivalent from a recognized dive organization and be at least 14 years old.
Upon successful completion of the Advanced Diver course, graduates will be certified to plan, organize, and manage complex and challenging dive expeditions, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to take on more ambitious diving adventures. The Advanced Diver certification also serves as a stepping stone for divers who wish to pursue further diving education, such as the BSAC First Class Diver course, which is the highest non-instructional diving grade within the BSAC system.
